JRR Tolkien Biographies

We have been working on biographies this week.  Below is a link to an informative PowerPoint on the topic.  Students have spent time in the computer room researching JRR Tolkien, the author of our upcoming novel study "The Hobbit".  The biography should be:

- 15-20 sentences in length
- include all 6 dress-ups and all 6 openers
- The finished product should be written neatly or typed and include a title page (as detailed on the website under "LA 8").
- Students may also want to include a photo of Tolkien.

The biography is due Monday Oct 1/2012.

Earthquakes
One of the worst things that can happen on our earth is an earthquake. When earthquakes happen near large cities, many people may be killed and many buildings knocked down. Fires may start and do more damage than the quake itself. Earthquakes come from a shaking of the rocks under the surface of the earth. Forces within the earth push against the rocks until they break. Sometimes, the earth above the break will split open.
